It’s good to be a B Corp

Doing business ethically is at the front of our mind. So we’re thrilled to have become a B Corp, meaning we meet high standards of environmental and social responsibility. And we don’t see this as a tick-box exercise. We’re committed to constantly improving ourselves and treating people and the planet with the care they deserve.

The ABCs of B Corp

B Corp is one of the most demanding sustainability certifications. It’s granted by B Lab, a non-profit organisation that aims to make business a force for good. To become a B Corp, a company must undergo a rigorous assessment process in 5 key areas. These are governance, workers, customers, community, and environment. Performance is measured on a points system, and companies need an overall score of 80 to pass.

Besides the score, businesses get specific suggestions for improvement. This is helpful as B Corp is not a one-off achievement. To encourage long-term commitment, companies have to recertify every 3 years.

What makes us a B Corp

We became a B Corp in 2022, but getting there took years of hard work. Here are a few of the things we’ve achieved.

Our overall impact score is 85.4

And we believe we can do even better in the future. Being certified on our first attempt certainly helps with motivation.

We really put you first

From Trustpilot to testing our service with patients, your feedback is a priority. It’s one reason our highest score was in the customers section.

We’re delivering your medicine in planet-friendly packaging. In fact, our insulated pouches are made by WoolCool®, another B Corp.

Businesses are expected to move and grow fast, but our planet’s resources are finite. So our daily practices can make a positive difference in our lives and the lives of future generations. But where do we even start? That’s what the B Corp framework is here for. It helps us break down this big mission into doable tasks and take action.

Becoming a better B Corp

Being a force for good is non-stop. So to help us continuously improve, we've made pledges covering the 5 impact areas. And we're happy to say we've met some of them already. These include supporting our team with the cost of living crisis and reducing energy use in our pharmacy. Other pledges will take longer, as they require deep review and careful planning. These are long-term goals, such as reducing our medicine waste and helping everyone at LloydsDirect build a meaningful career. We're working on these and look forward to sharing our progress with you.

In the meantime, we're also building our own B Corp community. Our B Corp partners have played a key role in supporting us to reach our goals. A great example is reducing our chilled medicine packaging with the help of Woolcool®. And the more B Corps we work with, the more positive changes we can make. So we're always open to connecting with like-minded companies.
